Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I start?
A. Easy, either contact us, or Register Online Now. Adults need to do an introductory session which takes about 3.5 hours and gives you all the basic skills to start attending the regular class.  After that you also have 2 free classes included in the intro deal after which you fill in your direct debit form and then just turning up to class. Kids will go straight into a class.

Q. Is there a minimum age limit for the adult class?
A. Yes we have a minimum age limit of 16 years old.

Q. How often do the regular adult classes run?
A. Every Monday night at 6.30 pm to 8:00pm and Wednesday night at 6.30 pm to 7.45 pm.

Q. Is there a minimum age limit for the kids classes?
A. Yes we have a minimum age limit of 5 years old.

Q. How often do the kids classes run?
A. Every Monday afternoon at 4.30pm to 5.30pm, except for public holidays and school holidays.

Q. Can the kids start mid term?
A. Yes, we offer a one off trial session for $20 and sessions after that will be worked out pro rata.

Q. Do I need to be very fit?
A. No, your fitness level will increase as you train and you only train to the level of stress that you feel comfortable with. Nobody will push you to train harder than you feel you’re comfortable with. All students are closely monitored by the instructor and allowances are made to accommodate everyone’s individual fitness level. You do not need any prior fitness training to attend Krav Maga training.

Q. What happens in a regular class?
A. Monday night’s class is a fighting skills class which starts with a short warm up and then continues with various combative or striking skills, followed by different drills to incorporate both skills and conditioning. Finishing with a short warm down. All drills are closely supervised by the Instructor to assure safety in training.  Wednesday nights are a technical class where we concentrate on skills required to deal with specific problems such as releases from common chokes and holds,  threats or attack with edged weapons , multiple attacker situations etc.

Q. What should I bring?
A. Wear comfortable clothes that you can train in eg. tracksuit pants , t-shirt and runners or cross training shoes.  Also a water bottle, towel and most importantly a positive attitude!  Any other training gear can be purchased through Krav Maga Canberra eg. fore arm or shin guards, groin guards etc.

Q. Do we train on public holidays?
A. Generally not, except for special events. Check (events) for further information.
Regards Kids classes:- We don’t train on public holidays or school holidays.

Q. Can I get private lessons?
A. Yes private lessons are available on application. If you belong to a group with specific needs or have a small group who’d like some training, a private course can be tailored to meet your specific requirements. For further information go to (contact us)

Q. Where can I get my protective gear from?
A. All protective gear such as groin guards, fore arm guards, shin guards, gloves, head gear and a wide range of other associated gear can be purchased from Krav Maga Canberra at very competitive rates.

Q. Is there a uniform and where do I get it?
A. The uniform consists of a grey KMG training t-shirt and black training pants. These items are to be purchased from Krav Maga Canberra in the first two weeks after commencement of training. Cost is $55.00.

Q. Does Krav Maga have any kind of grading?
A. Although grading isn’t the primary focus of training, Krav Maga does have a formal, structured and hierarchical grading system. For full details on the different grades and the paths of progression, see the Krav Maga Grading System page.
